Don't Squash Your Dreams
Dreaming is encouraged at a very your age and kids are taught to use their creativity and imaginations all day. I love seeing my kid's creativity through their art, their playtime, their stories, etc. It makes me want to be creative too! When you get older, dreaming is not as much of a focus. The focus turns into getting a good job and providing for your family. I think dreaming is very important because no matter what our age, dreaming brings hope, productivity, and excitement so we can live the type of life that we want. Dreaming is the light that can help you stay positive on a bad day and help you make the choices for a fulfilling life. I dream about dancing and know that I want to make choices so that I can make dancing part of my life.
I think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams because we didn't let roadblocks get in his way. He would find a way to get through that roadblock he experienced and kept seeking his dreams. He believed in karma - that if you lead a good, honest life, "dreams will come to you".
One of my childhood dreams was to dance professionally. I knew if I trained hard and kept practicing, something good would come. I won many competitions and enjoyed the friends I made, the community, and the family. I never really knew that my dreams of dancing professionally would actually come true, but as I did the work, opportunities came my way. I took advantage of what came from my hard work and know that’s how my dream came true. I toured the world with Riverdance and it still feels like a dream when I talk about it. I am glad that I worked hard for what I wanted but feel very grateful for the opportunity.
