7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Habit 1 - Be Proactive has the most meaning to me because I am working on choosing my reactions more consciously rather than blaming other factors. I can choose the way I behave and not let my behaviors rein over me. Choosing is a superpower that humans have that other species do not. Animals react but we can contemplate scenarios and choose what we want to do in most situations. We still have natural consequences for choices, but we are self-aware, have imagination, a conscience, and an independent will. Over years and years of repetitive reacting, it can be hard to change that programming. It is possible though and we can be “proactive in every situation that arises.”

The 7 habits will help me find passion and purpose because I will be able to know what it is I want to achieve, what to focus on, how to do it. Achieving private victory and being the person I want to become is a huge success. I am working on habit 1 and find it very challenging. To think about getting to the point where I’ll be working on public victory and have mastered the private victory habits, seems so far away. But I am eager and excited for progress and know that these habits will help meet that goal no matter how far away it seems.

This week I also really enjoyed finishing my book, Mastery. The last couple chapters really hit home the fact that I can choose the way I want my life to be. I can choose to be a  master in any aspect, including my relationships. Choices shape the world we live in, and my choices can change more than I realize sometimes. My body wants to be stuck in homeostasis, but I am trying to change my behavior for the better.
